Engaging the public and putting their savings to work in infrastructure is critical to building a low carbon future, Julia Groves, chief executive of the Trillion Fund told the Environmental Industries Commission annual conference.
"I think people care about their money and their energy bills so we need to find a way to start this engagement," said Groves
"The opportunity is help people to find a way to move their money in to projects and infrastructure and energy efficiency where they can see a return in a sensible timescale and feel like they are making a profit and making a difference."
She added: "It is an interesting idea for the users of infrastructure having more say – and if commercial firms are making money then shouldn’t the users ."
