Video: Stephen Joseph explains the UK local road funding crisis

George Osborne's recent comprehensive spending review created a story of "feast and famine" across the UK highways sector, explains Stephen Joseph, chief executive of the Campaign for Better Transport.

"We now have a story of feast and famine - feast for the strategic road network, which got money, and for some of the local major roads," he told the ACOonAir Highways Hangout at the recent Highways UK event.

"The famine is in the local road network where there really isn't enough money to keep it maintained or to deal with the backlog," he added.

"I don't think that government has get an answer to that. There is a really big issue about how we pay fro local road maintenance."
