Long term investment in the nation's highways network is the key to economic succes, says Steve Norris
“Highways England, as distinct from the old Highways Agency is a recognition that what you really want is a long term economic strategy and a strategic view of what the road network actually needs,” former transport minister Steve Norris told the ACOonAir Highways Hangout at the recent Highways UK event.
He added: “Highways have always been the driver for economic growth right from Roman times. The change [in national highways funding] is a recognition that if you are going to develop an efficient infrastructure you have got to have a long term business-like approach to funding and delivering it.”
