FIDIC relaunches iconic suite of construction contracts

The official launch of the much anticipated 2017 FIDIC Suite of Contracts is taking place this week at an international contract users’ conference in London.

Delegates attending will gain an in-depth understanding of the new suite’s capabilities in managing major projects and resolving disputes and hear directly from the FIDIC contracts committee and FIDIC updates task groups.

The old FIDIC 1999 Suite of Contracts (Red Book, Yellow Book and Silver Book) has now been updated by the FIDIC contracts committee. FIDIC concentrated on updating the Yellow Book 1999 first, and has continued this work by adopting harmonised changes for the updates of the Red Book and Silver Book.

At the conference in London on 5-6 December, members of the FIDIC contracts committee will unveil the main changes to the 1999 suite and explain why the changes introduced in the 2017 edition were deemed to be an improvement that will benefit the global FIDIC users’ community.

Delegates at the event will hear from experienced FIDIC contract users from large infrastructure companies such as Ramboll and others and share lessons learnt in using FIDIC forms of contract to underpin some of the most challenging contractual aspects. A number of new case studies from different industries and geographical regions has been will be presented to help bring the benefits to life and help delegates understand the practical challenges of FIDIC contract application in practice.

Projects under review include an infrastructure for environmental cleaning project in Romania, using the FIDIC Red Book, among other insightful cases covering other forms of contract and project types.

FIDIC says that the conference is “a defining moment for the global construction industry involved with FIDIC” as the organisation prepares to relaunch its iconic suite of contracts.
