Ivor Catto, Hyder Consulting chief executive during last October’s £296M purchase of the firm by Dutch consulting giant ARCADIS, is to step down at the end of February as the new combined business structure rolls out.

Alan Brookes the current UK ARCADIS chief executive, will lead the combined UK team of 3,900 staff under a plan which will bring operations together in the UK and the Middle East by July this year.

The restructure will also see Graham Reid, currently Hyder’s UK managing director, take up a new global design director role at ARCADIS, leveraging his experience of establishing and developing Hyder's Indian global design centres.

Speaking about the announcement, Neil McArthur, Chief Executive of ARCADIS said: "The strategic rationale for bringing Hyder and ARCADIS together was to further strengthen our design and consultancy position in key markets, provide a strong entry point into the Australian market and accelerate our ability to service clients in all markets from our design excellence centers across the world. We have already seen success in our coming together through client wins, notably the recent Crossrail 2 win in the UK and we anticipate further successes in the future."

It is understood that no decision over whether or not to retain the Hyder name has been taken yet.

Outside the UK, Greg Steele, former managing director Hyder's Australasia business will become regional chief executive for the new Australia Pacific region. In the Middle East, former Hyder Consulting's group operating officer Wael Allan will take the role of ARCADIS chief executive for the region. John Williams, currently ARCADIS leader in the region, will take up the role of chief operating officer.

Neil McArthur paid tribute to Catto, who led the Hyder business since 2008 and drove the take-over deal.

“I would like to thank Ivor for his help in Hyder's smooth transition to ARCADIS,” said McArthur. “Under his leadership Hyder has successfully built the operating model based on global design excellence which was a major consideration for us when acquiring Hyder. I have great respect for his leadership and wish him well."
