HS2 to recruit community engagement specialists to listen to local concerns

A team of dedicated community engagement specialists is to be recruited by HS2 Ltd to understand and respond to the views of people living along the route of HS2, Britain’s new high speed rail network.

The move follows the announcement last month that HS2 Ltd is to recruit an independent construction commissioner to look into complaints during the building of the project.

HS2 Ltd plans to recruit 11 specialists in community engagement to be based in regions along the proposed route for Phase One of HS2, between London and the West Midlands. Their main role will be to ensure that HS2 is talking and listening to all those who are affected by the project in their area.

Those appointed will run local information events and facilitate ongoing dialogue with communities to ensure HS2 Ltd listens to and acts on people’s concerns.

HS2 Ltd senior area engagement manager, Jonathan Lord said: “As HS2 moves towards construction we recognise that it will have a significant impact on the lives of local residents and businesses who live and work along the line of route. We are looking to build a strong team of experienced community engagement specialists to put the concerns of people at the heart of what we do and to give us a thorough understanding of local issues.”
