Science Museum tipped to move into Old Oak Common redevelopment

The Science Museum is to establish a major new building at the centre of the redevelopment in Old Oak Common. 

Senior City Hall sources confirmed to the Evening Standard that "the household name" talked about by mayor Boris Johnson when the masterplan for the new district in west London was unveiled earlier in the week is the South Kensington museum.

The 46-acre site will be turned into a neighbourhood with up to 7,000 homes, known as Old Oak Park, next to the Grand Union Canal in 2021. landowner Cargiant and development partner London & Regional Properties.

Masterplan designers PLP Architecture and consulting engineers Arup have launched a public consultation on the proposals for Old Oak Park, the largest privately owned section of the Old Oak Common regeneration site. It is being developed by landowner Cargiant and development partner London & Regional Properties.

The masterplan includes up to 7,000 new homes, six new neighbourhoods, a primary school; a new high street, a viaduct, a range of commercial and retail space and 14 new bridges and underpasses and a brand new park.

Victoria Hills, chief executive of the Old Oak and Park Royal Mayoral Development Corporation (OPDC), which was created in April last year and acts as the local planning authority for the area, said: “We welcome the progress that has been made as consultation starts on the Old Oak Park masterplan and are looking forward to receiving the planning application.

“The consultation follows hot on the heels of the OPDC adopting its planning framework, as we get ready to consult on the local plan which will set out the blueprint for the wider regeneration of Old Oak and Park Royal.”
