Crunching carbon, cutting costs - free events. Supported by Green Construction Board

Join Mott MacDonald on 5 and 12 August for two ‘low carbon master classes’ at the Royal Academy of Engineering, London, setting out the challenges overcome and opportunities realised at low carbon pioneer Anglian Water.

How to reduce carbon events

The government’s Infrastructure Carbon Review (ICR), published  in November 2013, estimated that the UK infrastructure industry could realise efficiency savings worth £1.5bn by cutting its carbon emissions. Anglian Water carbon manager David Riley will explain how by offering insight into his company’s own low carbon journey.

5 August: Crunching carbon – leadership and skills

Growing threats posed by climate change and population growth combined with regulatory pressure on costs and greenhouse gas legislation demanded action. David Riley and Mark Enzer will explain how Anglian Water responded by promoting a new culture of carbon awareness, communicating the link between carbon reduction and commercial performance to the company’s directors, investors and staff. Hear how Anglian Water set out its low carbon vision, grew a low carbon skills set and incentivised innovation to achieve it. Project examples will show how carbon and cost savings were advanced in ever greater leaps as confidence grew.

12 August: Measurement, management and reduction

‘You need to know where the carbon is to reduce it.’ David Riley, Craig Jones and Maria Manidaki will explain how Anglian Water put practical tools into the hands of engineering practitioners, enabling them to quantify the carbon and cost associated with materials, transport and site activities, identify the carbon ‘hot spots’ and then to compare options and systematically drive efficiency. Find out how Anglian Water pulled together data to create its first elementary carbon modelling tool and then rapidly developed it, reaping ever greater benefits by doing so.

These events are aimed at influencers, decision makers and practitioners in all parts of the infrastructure industry – communications, power, transport and waste as well as water. Attend if you’re wondering how carbon reduction could benefit your business, how to get started, or how to accelerate the pace of change.

Both events are free to attend but booking is essential. To register for one or both, click here.
