BOOK NOW: Friday webinar on "Post-Covid – the skills challenge for construction"

An Infrastructure Intelligence free live webinar on Friday 31 July, as part of our ‘Covid Recovery' series.

The social and economic challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic will mean big challenges for all firms working in the construction and infrastructure sector. The widely predicted economic downturn and uncertain work pipeline could mean widespread job losses in an industry that is already facing skills shortages in a number of key sectors.

More than ever before, the industry is going to need to work more closely and increase collaboration to protect the sector’s skills through this crisis and beyond. The future success of the sector will require significant collaboration and coordination if the right people with the right skills are to be retained in the industry.

The launch of the Construction Talent Retention Scheme just last week is a key part of the Construction Leadership Council's recovery plan for the construction sector as it offers an opportunity for the industry to keep the vital skills it needs to drive growth across the UK. The scheme, a not-for-profit programme, backed by government, business organisations, professional institutions and construction unions, works via an online portal allowing skilled individuals to showcase their experience and expertise and helps businesses across the industry find the skills they need.

Already, companies employing more than 100,000 people have signed up to support the scheme and we are pleased to have WSP chief executive Mark Naysmith and Hannah Vickers, ACE CEO, both of whom played a key role in getting the scheme up and running, on our panel for this event. We are also delighted to have two leading women from the industry - Sarah Beale, chief executive of the Construction Industry Training Board and Katie Hulland, president of Women in Transport - also speaking at this event.

As well as giving the latest update on the new Construction Talent Retention Scheme, this webinar, which is brought to you in association with Barton Willmore, will look at the practical steps that the industry needs to take to safeguard its skills base during a potential downturn and also the steps that individual firms are taking to ensure that they maintain the human resources they need to continue to deliver for clients in challenging times.
