CH2M/Atkins/Sener joint venture strongly tipped as HS2 partner

A consortium of CH2M Hill, Atkins and Spanish firm Sener is strongly tipped to have won the key engineering delivery partner role for the first phase of High Speed 2.

The joint venture has been competing against two rival consortia of leading engineering consultants – Bechtel/Jacobs/Idom Merebrook and Parsons Brinckerhoff/Ramboll UK – for the key role on the project.

Advising on engineering delivery over the 10-year contract period is thought to be worth £250m-£350m and HS2’s chosen partner will help to manage and co-ordinate design and support management of the major ECI contract programme for civils work packages worth up to £500m.

Industry sources say that HS2 will make an official announcement very soon on its preferred partner, but so far HS2 are refusing to comment on the rumours.

CH2M Hill has already bagged a £70m contract on HS2 in 2012 to act development partner, assisting HS2 in the engineering, design and environmental work on the proposed line from London to Birmingham.

CH2M Hill acquired Halcrow four years ago, which worked on HS1 and Crossrail. They have previously delivered the construction for London 2012  as the Olympic Delivery Authority’s delivery partner and have also taken a high profile role programme managing the London Tideway Tunnel and Crossrail.
