David Waboso appointed to forge Digital Railway

Network Rail has announced that London Underground's capital programmes director David Waboso will join NR to lead its Digital Railway directorate. Waboso, who is currently responsible for heading up the £1.5 billion annual Tube upgrade programme, is expected to take up his new post as managing director, Digital Railway, at the start of June this year, taking over from Jerry England.

The Digital Railway programme is a cross-industry initiaitve, funded and led by Network Rail, aimed at getting greater capacity from the rail network with new digitally coordinated train control and signalling technology.

Prior to joining London Underground in 2005, Waboso was executive director at the Strategic Rail Authority from where he led cross-industry national programmes for new signalling and communications systems. As MD for NR's Digital Railway directorate, Waboso will report to NR chief executive Mark Carne.

Carne said: “Attracting someone of David's talent highlights the progress we have made and our determination to use technology to unlock capacity on Britain's congested network. I look forward to working with him and I know he will continue Jerry’s excellent work in making sure we have the plans and funding in place to deliver the railway Britain needs for the future.”
