Cameron names his new Tory government

Names of new Cabinet and departmental heads released as Cameron shapes post Election administration 

Prime Minister David Cameron has started the task of naming is new government and has named Amber Rudd in the critical role of Energy and Climate Change Secretary to replace former Lib Dem Ed Davey.

Also announced was Sajid Javid as new Business Secretary who moves from his previous riole as Culture Secretary to take over from Vince Cable.

London Mayor and newly elected MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip Boris Johnson has not been given a Cabinet role but will attend new separate Tory "political cabinet" meetings. 

Other appointments include:

  • George Osborne remains as Chancellor
  • Michael Gove is Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice
  • Nicky Morgan is Secretary of State for Education and minister for Women and Equalities
  • Priti Patel will attend Cabinet as employment minister.
  • Chris Grayling is Leader of the House of Commons
  • Patrick McLoughlin remains Transport Secretary
  • Theresa May remains as Home Secretary
  • Michael Fallon remains Defence Secretary
  • Phillip Hammond remains Defence Secretary  
  • Mark Harper is Chief Whip
  • John Whittingdale is Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport
  • Baroness Stowell remains leader of House of Lords and takes on the role of Lord Privy Seal
  • Iain Duncan Smith remains as work and pension secretary
  • Robert Halfon is named deputy chairman of the Conservative Party
  • Liz Truss continues as Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
  • Anna Soubry  becomes Minister of State (Minister for Small Business) and attends Cabinet
  • Greg Clark becomes Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government
  • Justine Greening continues as Secretary of State for International Development
  • Theresa Villiers continues as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland
  • Jeremy Hunt continues as Secretary of State for Health
  • Stephen Crabb continues as Secretary of State for Wales 
  • Greg Hands becomes Chief Secretary to the Treasury and will attend Cabine
  • Matt Hancock  becomes Minister for Cabinet Office and Paymaster General (Minister for Efficiency & Civil Service Reform)
  • David Mundell becomes Secretary of State for Scotland
  • Oliver Letwin is promoted to Cabinet as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in overall charge of the Cabinet Office
  • Jeremy Wright QC continues as Attorney General
  • Baroness Anelay continues as Minister of State at Foreign & Commonwealth Office and attends Cabinet
