EDAROTH gets green light for Raven Housing Trust’s net zero homes scheme

Affordable housing developer EDAROTH has been given the green light to provide sustainable homes in Surrey after Raven Housing Trust was granted planning permission for its latest housing scheme.

Social housing provider Raven will be working with EDAROTH to develop the new houses, using offsite manufacturing methods to create low energy-use, net zero homes.

EDAROTH – which stands for Everyone Deserves a Roof Over Their Heads - is wholly owned subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis.

The new homes will be built across four development sites in Epsom and Reigate and Banstead borough council areas, by repurposing garage sites belonging to Raven - which already manages 7,000 homes across Surrey. 

The plan will provide 12 homes in well-located areas of the town and represents the start of a significant partnership to develop more sites over the coming years which will benefit residents and help communities to thrive.

Mark Powell, managing director of EDAROTH, said: “This scheme will help to provide high quality, sustainable homes which will transform under-utilised land into thriving places for the people most in need of a roof over their heads. 

“It is a great example of how EDAROTH can make more challenging sites work for development, and as such we can add to the number of social and affordable houses being delivered in the region.

“We now have a number of sites with planning permission secured, paving the way for a long-term plan to provide a pipeline of social housing for those in greatest need, and it’s really encouraging to be able to work with a progressive partner such as Raven which shares our vision for developing communities.”

These particular garage sites provide the perfect locations for new homes, already within established communities and with local amenities close by.

The majority of the building parts will be manufactured at EDAROTH’s UK factory in West Yorkshire and assembled on site, which will reduce the carbon impact of the process.

It also ensures the homes will be delivered more quickly compared to traditional methods of construction, with minimal disruption to residents living near the development sites. 

It is hoped that work will start early in 2024 on the new homes which will not only be produced using sustainable materials and offsite manufacturing methods but will also be built to EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) A+, the highest efficiency rating possible to keep energy usage and carbon emissions low. 

The scheme in Surrey is the latest in a number of new contracts across south-east England for EDAROTH.
