Forth Road Bridge team bags top Saltire engineering award

Amey’s Forth Road Bridge team has won the Greatest Contribution to Scotland Award – the highest accolade at the Saltire Civil Engineering Awards – for their round the clock work to reopen the bridge just before Christmas last year.

The Saltire Civil Engineering Awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity in Scotland. The Greatest Contribution to Scotland Award is given to the project that most beneficially impacts the people of Scotland and best showcases the vital contribution that civil engineers make to Scottish life.

Scottish Parliament transport minister Humza Yousaf said: “The Saltire Society Awards are widely regarded as the most respected of the civil engineering industry and this is a prestigious and well-deserved accolade. It is fitting that the unsung heroes responsible for developing such an innovative and effective solution against a challenging deadline and under the watchful eye of a nation have been recognised for their efforts.

“Transport Scotland were delighted to play a role in getting the bridge reopened in such a relatively short space of time. The collective response to this unforeseen event was remarkable and reinforced Scotland’s solid reputation for engineering excellence,” said Yousaf.

Mark Arndt, Amey’s account director commented: “Our Forth Road Bridge team put in a tremendous amount of effort, dedication and hard work to get the bridge reopened quickly and safely and I’m delighted that the team have once again been recognised for this.”

Ewan Angus, Amey’s bridges director who oversaw Amey’s response team, said: “This award represents the pinnacle of Scottish engineering accolades and to be awarded the Greatest Contribution for Scotland Award is a real honour, and an achievement that the whole team should be proud of.”

The Forth Road Bridge team has also collected the Highways Partnership Award at the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards and Travel Information and Marketing at the National Transport Awards this month.
