Matrix Networks appoints Wendy Andrews to board of directors

Wendy Andrews, commercial director at Matrix Networks.

Wendy Andrews, a commercial and legal professional with more than two decades of experience in the construction industry, has been appointed to the board of directors of utility infrastructure provider Matrix Networks.

Promoted to the role of commercial director, Andrews’s appointment marks the first time a woman has held a board-level position at the Warrington-based business, since it was founded in 2006. In taking up her new role, Andrews joins a growing number of female professionals who are making their mark in senior level appointments in construction - currently at 16%, having risen from just 6% in 2005*. As commercial director, Andrews will combine her previous client-side experience of the construction industry with the specialist knowledge of the utilities sector which she has gained over the past six years working for Matrix Networks. Andrews’s law degree will also come in handy in her new role, providing the unique skill set combination which Matrix requires for the commercial director position.

Commenting on Andrews’s appointment, Matrix Networks’ managing director Rob Sparkes, said: “The role of commercial director is a challenging one, but having worked with Wendy for a number of years, I know she fits the bill perfectly. She’s not only well qualified for the position but, fundamental to Matrix Networks, Wendy understands our customers and I know she’ll be an asset to our board and the future of our business.”

Andrews added: “Matrix Networks is a business which is forward-thinking and focused on customer service. That’s what differentiates us from our competitors and working client-side for almost 20 years has given me a thorough understanding of the expectations of our customers.  I hope to be able to bring this insight to board-level discussions and as the only woman on the board communicate a positive message about Matrix Networks’ commitment to the future of the construction industry.”

Matrix Networks employs more than 60 staff at its three offices in Warrington, Northampton and Slough. Its business model is built around meeting the specific needs of customers and delivering a level of service which may not be experienced through working with some of the larger utility suppliers. In taking this approach, the business continues to enjoy success, working with many of the UK’s largest commercial developers and main contractors to complete major multi-utility projects. In the last 12 months alone, it has increased its turnover by 20%.
