Arcadis appointed as delivery partner for Belfast Hub

Northern Ireland's public sector transport operator Translink has awarded Arcadis the delivery partner contract for a new transport hub in Belfast. The rail, bus, road and pedestrian interchange is prioritised for government funding and will sit at the heart of Translink's Weavers Cross mixed-use development, named in recognition of the area's industrial heritage.

Arcadis will provide project and commercial management and construction site supervision for the enabling and main construction works, as well as procurement strategy advice and design and engineering input throughout the project lifecycle. Construction is programmed to start before the end of this year, subject to planning consent.

Arcadis' country lead for Ireland, Dennis Geary, said: “The people of Northern Ireland are set to benefit from increased infrastructure investment over the coming years, as the government seeks to make the country more productive and more attractive to investors. Bringing new growth to this key area of the United Kingdom can only be good news for those who live, work and do business there. We are extremely proud to be playing our part in making Northern Ireland better connected for people right across the country.”

The Hub will be located on the site of the Europa Bus Centre and Great Victoria Street Train Station in Belfast. It is one of the most important projects in the region and will be a core component in delivering Belfast’s overall vision as a modern European city.

The Weavers Cross development will include a brand new station quarter, public areas and a large section of potential retail and office space. This opens up the opportunity for significant private investment directly into the site, creating new jobs and regeneration opportunities throughout the surrounding neighbourhood.
