Manchester City’s Football Academy will shortly become a world-class sporting and leisure facility, playing a key role in consolidating the city’s international reputation for sporting excellence.

Over £100m is being invested into this flagship project to construct a state- of- the- art facility adjacent to the Etihad Stadium on a redundant, neglected and heavily contaminated former industrial site in the heart of MCFC’s local community.

BWB has been heavily involved in the £15m Constraints Removal Works contract since Summer 2011, when it was let to Buckingham Group under D&B procurement, through to handover of the remediated site in Spring 2013.

Operating a national apprenticeship scheme in conjunction with local universities and the Technical Apprenticeship Consortium (TAC). It currently has five apprentices of which four are female.

Techniker

Through its recent work on the complex Somerset House staircase the company has developed an expertise in the use of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and in the design of modern structures appropriate to historical contexts.

Schemes such as the Somerset House stair rely on close integration between the client, architect, engineer and fabricator and it continues to improve its communications with all project stakeholders.

The use of three-dimensional computer draughting tools and four-dimensional analysis programmes (including time effects) have enlarged its capabilities safely to refine minimum weight designs which are practical to build and free of dynamic effects.
