Video: Big beam lift on new M1 link

Highways England has released a timelapse video showing the progressive lifting and placing of 38 steel beams on the A5-M1 Link project.

The beams, each weighing around 100t, were placed over the M1 during night time possessions during March and April this year. The bridges shown will form a new Junction 11A interchange bridge and a new B579 Luton Road bridge for the £162m A5-M1 project, which is being built by a Costain Carillion joint venture.

The A5-M1 Link Road project involves building 2.8 miles of new dual carriageway to link the A5 to the M1 north of Dunstable in Bedfordshire. Three new junctions are being including the new interchange with the M1 motorway, Junction 11a, at the eastern end of the link road. Work is due to be complete in spring 2017.
