Salary 

Leads the development and delivery of excellence in design services through all stages of project development. Provides technical direction to design engineers and technicians. Liaises with clients, contractors and third parties to include FM Conway internal clients such as Term Maintenance, Civils, Structures, and Rail. Resolves technical issues and tracks and measures progress of structural design projects. Contributes to the profitability of the business through robust financial management of design services.

  1. To develop, manage and lead a team to deliver consultancy structural engineering services through a range of technical disciplines for various project and clients.
  2. To ensure all designs adhere to current best practice, legislation, regulations and company policy to include DMRB standards, EN Eurocodes and national guidance.
  3. To assess and design-out hazards wherever possible within the design process and propose effective control measures for the reduction and elimination of risk.
  4. To maintain continuous professional development with a particular focus on technical and legislative developments. Seek opportunities to develop both the professional profile of yourself and the Company through active participation in, and support for technical committees and professional bodies.
  5. To conduct site surveys, collect and assess site information, liaise with clients and site teams. Represent the Company at design and site meetings.
  6. To work collaboratively with company divisions and other stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of end to end services.
  7. To contribute to developing new business opportunities by providing strong technical support to the tender process by identifying innovative and cost effective strategies and design solutions.
  8. To manage the financial control of projects from estimation to completion.
  9. To undertake other duties and ad-hoc projects as required by the business.

Requirements 

Professional / Technical Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience and quantifiable success in a similar role and environment to include highways engineering and urban design within a consultancy environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with both local government and private sector clients.
  • A recognised leader in a specialist discipline with well-established industry networks

Desirable

  • Site management experience
  • Strong working knowledge of different contract types and procurement options to include NEC3.

Educational Qualifications

Essential

  • A level or equivalent standard general education
  • BEng/MEng Structural Engineering Degree
  • Chartered Member of IStructE or other relevant professional body
  • CSCS
