Former Balfour Beatty boss takes on chairman role at Amey

Construction group Amey has announced the appointment of former Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler as its new non-executive chairman.

Tyler, who currently sits on the board of four organisations including Bovis Homes and BAE Systems, will be replacing Sir Richard Mottram, who has served as chairman since 2008. He was chief executive of Balfour Beatty for more than eight years from January 2005 to March 2013. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty as finance director in 1996, Tyler was financial comptroller of Hanson and finance director of ARC Ltd. In 2014, the government appointed Tyler as a senior 'minder' to oversee G4S in a bid to reaffirm confidence in the company on future contracts.

Commenting on his appointment, Andy Milner, Amey chief executive, said: “We are really pleased that Ian is joining the board of Amey as non-exec chairman. Ian is a very well qualified and experienced executive and non-executive, who brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the sectors in which we operate. On behalf of the Amey board, I would like to thank Sir Richard Mottram for his many years of commitment and service to Amey.”

Tyler added: “Following on from a difficult period for the sector, it is clear that the Amey business has navigated this situation well and this is an exciting time to be joining. I look forward to working with the leadership team to realise the Amey ambition of creating better places for people to live, work and travel.”
