Andrew Hunter, newly appointed director of engineering at Sir Robert McAlpine.

Construction and civil engineering company Sir Robert McAlpine has appointed Andrew Hunter as its new director of engineering.

Hunter succeeds Alison Cox, who vacated this position in August 2021 when she became managing director for Sir Robert McAlpine’s largest region, London.

Prior to joining the company as a technical director in 2018, Hunter held a senior leadership position at Skanska, as technical services director.

He brings a wealth of insight and experience to the role.

During his time at Sir Robert McAlpine, Hunter has been a champion for the implementation of digital technologies and will continue to drive for improvements in productivity that ensure the business provides best value and innovative solutions to client.

In his new role he joins the company’s executive leadership team, the firm’s main decision-making body responsible for delivering business strategy and performance.

Paul Hamer, chief executive of Sir Robert McAlpine, said: “Over the past few years, Andrew has been instrumental to our success and his level of insight has proven invaluable. We are excited to see him apply his talents to our UK wide operations and look forward to his engineering and technical input at the highest level of our business.”

Hunter added: “I’m delighted at the opportunity to take on the role of director of engineering and manage such a talented team of individuals. Sir Robert McAlpine has a well-earned reputation as one of the UK’s leading construction and civil engineering companies and I look forward to continuing this legacy of exemplary project delivery and technical excellence.”
